Fitness Myths: Strength Training with Weights will make me Bulky

Many people avoid weight training because somewhere along the way they heard that it will make their muscles big. This is simply a matter of misinformation. Strength training is a critical element to create muscle tone and burn fat and should not be left out of your well rounded routine.

Light to moderate weights with between 12-20 repetitions are most effective for toning lean muscle mass. Building large muscles takes a great deal of discipline and a very strict regimen of heavier weights. Body builders work for years to get the muscle mass that they exhibit.

Stick to the moderate weights, enough to challenge your muscles at the higher reps and your muscles will be sleek and toned without any bulk.


Pilates Mat

Mat Class is the very foundation of the Pilates method. Learn the basics of breathing, engaging your powerhouse, control, centering, along with the flow and transition of one movement to the next. Pilates Mat is the perfect class for anyone just starting to engage core strengthening into their workout routine. You will learn to listen to your body and continue to challenge yourself throughout each class. Props such as Magic Circles and hand weights are incorporated into the class to provide extra challenge.

Pilates Reformer Classes

Group Reformer classes - An excellent way to step up your Pilates workout. With the added resistance of the machine, you will build on your strength and alignment. Our group classes are limited to 4 people. This provides you with more interaction with the instructor and a better overall workout. Reformer classes are restricted to clients who have had prior reformer training.

Private Reformer Training - Essential to learn the basics of the reformer workout before going into a group class. Privates give you the one-on-one attention you need to learn proper form and technique.

Duets - Even better than a group class, bring a friend and prepare to be amazed by this focused workout. 2 people, one instructor. The instructor will facilitate you through a workout to accommodate the needs of both you and your partner. Duets must be scheduled with the instructor.

Reformer Introductory Package - Best value for beginners. Begin with 2 Private sessions to learn the equipment and the basics of Pilates on a reformer. This package is ideal in building a sound foundation in order to move up to a group reformer class. Just $85

Yoga Flow

Yoga Flow - Part of our Yoga Donations Program, our Yoga Flow class, designed by instructor Lana Armstrong, is a blend of Hatha yoga (Hatha is the "core" yoga which other styles are derived such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, or Bikram).  This is a dynamic yoga class which builds heat in the body (heat = sweat).  It incorporates breathing techniques, strength building sequences, along with flexibility. This is not a beginner class but a rigorous yoga workout. Highly recommended for those who want to challenge their basics and build on their strengths. This class has been suspended until after the new year. If you are interested in this class, please contact us to let us know.
